Trails of Light

without comments

Here is another one from London of Big Ben and Parliament.  This one a long exposure at 30 sec, this allowed a few cars to whiz by while I had the shutter open leaving trails of light.

Ghost In The Tunnel

without comments

I originally shot a version of this photo in color while visiting London in January.  I went back through my shots and I had originally disregarded this version of the same image until I did a little experimenting with it in Nik’s Silver Effect Pro 2.  I really like how this turned out with amount of contrast and the other worldly figure coming out of the Underground station near Westminster station. This area of London is a great place for night photography as you get many city lights, shadows and light reflection of the river Thames.  Next time your in London, Look for Big Ben and you find this station and a great spot to get some unique shots.

Can you hear me now?

I love finding pictures that I initially disregard and then re-discover them.  With a little processing, I managed to bring out the foreground which was initially very dark in the original.  I took this one just outside Somerset House in London England.

London Underground Way Out

without comments

This photo reminds me of something out of a Stanley Kubrick film, very surreal but has more meaning than what the scene portrays.   However, I’m not that clever and I just liked the difference in how the underground entrance lighting differed from the street lighting.  I took this photo at night just outside the Westminster Underground station in London located  by Victory Embankment along the Thames river.  The Embankment is a great walk for your next trip to London as you will see The Eye, Big Ben, Parliament, and so many major sites.  It’s a great way to take London in if you only have a day or two.

Kings Cross? Or Kings Weave?

Kings Cross Train Station

This somewhat abstract photo was taken while going down an escalator in to Kings Cross Underground station.  The unique steel structure has been described as a reverse waterfall, I think it looks more like a flower.  Harry Potter fans will remember Kings Cross as the place to find platform 9 3/4 to Hogwarts.  There is a place near this escalator where you can get your picture taken pushing a cart through a wall, and a Harry Potter store that carries movie and book memorabilia.

Chillin’ With A Cup Of Coffee At Covent Garden

Covent Garden

Have you ever met someone that you really like and look forward to seeing them again? That was my experience at Covent Garden.  A shopping center with a ton of personality where you can find stores from Apple and Disney. As well as unique one of a kind stores and  local artist selling their goods.  A lively combination of indoor and outdoor shopping lends itself to great people watching. As you enter the market, you are greated by a set of Rules, Orders, and Bye-Laws from 1831 that are sure to make you chuckle.  I took this photo on the only “sunny” day we had in London at the front of the Market.  The girl on the right was enjoying her coffee  very much as it was a cool morning.  A great time for cup of joe before the shops open.

Thank You For Posing Mr Beefeater

Tower of London Beefeater

I wouldn’t call him beefy, but he is a Beefeater.  This Beefeater, or officially known as a Yeomen Warder,  is a former British Army Staff Sergeant who served 25 years in Her Majesties Army.  He reminded me of my Company Commanders while in the US Navy bootcamp.  He had a great sense of humor, but underneath the surface you could see a flinty streak.  He was nice enough however to pose just as I raised my lens to take his photo.

The London Eye On Fire

without comments

London Eye

The London Eye lit up at night reflecting in the river Thames.  The eye is very impressive, a huge ferris wheel that was erected as part the millennial celebration over a decade ago.  You can go up to the very top and get impressive views of London.  Did I go up in it? HELL NO!  I was in no mood to fall to my death, or get stuck at the top. Besides it was closed for maintenance.
